Just a few minutes from the resort, Cariati will enchant you with its medieval old town overlooking the Ionian Sea. Founded in the Hellenistic period, it was a city of Magna Graecia, a Byzantine stronghold, and a bishopric for over five centuries. Tomba Brettia – Cariati
A valuable find dating back to 330 BC, discovered in 1978 in the hills of Cariati.

Cariati celebrates
In May, locals celebrate San Cataldo, the patron saint: his bust is carried in procession through the streets of the town and then by boat to the sanctuary on the sea. Some devotees follow barefoot, others carry the “majo,” a pole decorated with ribbons, flowers, and pasta.
On August 16, it is San Rocco's turn: the statue crosses the sea on a fishing boat, accompanied by other boats, tourists, and fireworks.
